ORA-06502 NULL INDEX TABLE KEY VALUE: ON INSERT WITH A COMPOUND TRIGGER (Doc ID 1233971.1)

Last updated on JULY 05, 2017

Applies to:

PL/SQL - Version: 11.2.0.1 to 11.2.0.1 - Release: 11.2 to 11.2
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

The first firing of a compound trigger causes an error

e.g.
INSERT INTO aaa_test(id, col1) VALUES(1, 1)
               *
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: NULL index table key value
ORA-21779: duration not active
ORA-06512: at "CTTEST.T_AAA_TEST", line 29
ORA-04088: error during execution of trigger 'CTTEST.T_AAA_TEST'

A wrong initialization of variables occurs in the "before statement".
When the INSERT is tried a second time it works (and also for subsequent times).

Same code works in 11.1.0.7.

Changes

Upgraded from 11.1. where compound triggers were first introduced.
