ORA-15482: Failed To Create/Remove Device File For Volume (Doc ID 1264184.1)

Goal


While setting up a volume to create an ACFS filesystem, receiving the following error when enabling the volume:


SQL> alter diskgroup TEST enable volume VOL1;
alter diskgroup TEST enable volume VOL1
*
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-15032: not all alterations performed
ORA-15482: failed to create/remove device file for volume VOL1 on
diskgroup TEST

Able to create other volumes but the error will also occur at the time when attempting to enable them.

The disk group has proper compatible attributes set:

SQL> create diskgroup TEST external redundancy
disk '/dev/rhdisk201' size 1024G
attribute 'COMPATIBLE.ASM'='11.2', 'COMPATIBLE.ADVM'='11.2',
'COMPATIBLE.RDBMS'='11.2', 'AU_SIZE'='4M';
Diskgroup created.
