Symptoms

 

Creating a spfile under Oracle RDBMS 10.2.x fails with error:

SQL> create spfile from pfile;
create spfile from pfile
*
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-01078: failure in processing system parameters
ORA-27038: created file already exists
Additional information: 1

A current spfile already exists although this should not prevent a new spfile to be created.
