Last updated on JANUARY 11, 2015

Applies to:

Oracle Database - Enterprise Edition - Version 11.2.0.2 to 11.2.0.2 [Release 11.2]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

There are a few symptoms in this case,

1). Running root.sh on seconde node for installing 11.2.0.2 on HPUX-IA failed with below messages.

Creating /etc/oratab file...
Entries will be added to the /etc/oratab file as needed by
Database Configuration Assistant when a database is created
Finished running generic part of root script.
Now product-specific root actions will be performed.
Using configuration parameter file:
/oracle/grid/product/11.2.0/crs/install/crsconfig_params
Creating trace directory
LOCAL ADD MODE
Creating OCR keys for user 'root', privgrp 'sys'..
Operation successful.
OLR initialization - successful
Adding daemon to inittab
CRS-4402: The CSS daemon was started in exclusive mode but found an active
CSS daemon on node node1, number 1, and is terminating
An active cluster was found during exclusive startup, restarting to join the
cluster
Failed to start Oracle Clusterware stack
Failed to start Cluster Synchorinisation Service in clustered mode at
/oracle/grid/product/11.2.0/crs/install/crsconfig_lib.pm line 1019.
/oracle/grid/product/11.2.0/perl/bin/perl
-I/oracle/grid/product/11.2.0/perl/lib
-I/oracle/grid/product/11.2.0/crs/install
/oracle/grid/product/11.2.0/crs/install/rootcrs.pl execution failed  <<<

2). rootcrs_node2.log shows start of 'ora.cssd' failed:

2010-11-26 14:47:49: CRS-2672: Attempting to start 'ora.diskmon' on 'node2'
2010-11-26 14:47:49: CRS-2676: Start of 'ora.diskmon' on 'node2' succeeded
2010-11-26 14:47:49: CRS-2674: Start of 'ora.cssd' on 'node2' failed <<<

3). mcasttest.pl provided in note 1212703.1 was run before running root.sh and showed that multicast works fine for both 224.x and 230.x addresses.

Sample of mcasttest.pl output before running root.sh:

---- Before running root.sh ----

Test for Multicast address 230.0.1.0

Nov 26 11:37:04 | Multicast Succeeded for lan900 using address 230.0.1.0:42000
Nov 26 11:37:05 | Multicast Succeeded for lan901 using address 230.0.1.0:42001

Test for Multicast address 224.0.0.251

Nov 26 11:37:06 | Multicast Succeeded for lan900 using address 224.0.0.251:42002
Nov 26 11:37:07 | Multicast Succeeded for lan901 using address 224.0.0.251:42003

4). However, mcasttest.pl run after root.sh showed that multi-cast works for one node but failed on the other (i.e. muti-cast works only one direction):

sample mcasttest.pl output after root.sh:

---- After fail root.sh ----
Test for Multicast address 230.0.1.0

Nov 26 11:39:09 | Multicast Succeeded for lan900 using address 230.0.1.0:42000
Nov 26 11:39:09 | Multicast Failed for lan901 using address 230.0.1.0:42001

Test for Multicast address 224.0.0.251

Nov 26 11:39:11 | Multicast Succeeded for lan900 using address 224.0.0.251:42002
Nov 26 11:39:42 | Multicast Failed for lan901 using address 224.0.0.251:42003
