CTX_DDL.OPTIMIZE_INDEX "FULL" fails With An empty ORA-20000 error since upgrade to 11.2.0.2 (Doc ID 1279165.1)

Last updated on FEBRUARY 02, 2019

Applies to:

Oracle Text - Version 11.2.0.2 to 11.2.0.2 [Release 11.2]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

After upgrading the database from 11.2.0.1 to 11.2.0.2, running OPTIMIZE_INDEX FULL fails with an empty ORA-20000 error for some indexes:

SQL> begin ctx_ddl.optimize_index('TEXT_INDEX','FULL'); end;
   2 /
begin ctx_ddl.optimize_index('TEXT_INDEX','FULL'); end;
*
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-20000: Oracle Text error:
ORA-06512: at "CTXSYS.DRUE", line 160
ORA-06512: at "CTXSYS.CTX_DDL", line 941
ORA-06512: at line 1

Since serial OPTIMIZE FULL is resumable, subsequent calls to CTX_DDL.OPTIMIZE_INDEX "FULL" will resume from where it left after a failure. Hence, repeatedly calling OPTIMIZE_INDEX "FULL" for the same index will allow it to complete successfully:

SQL> -- Error 1
SQL> execute ctx_ddl.optimize_index('TEXT_INDEX','FULL');
BEGIN ctx_ddl.optimize_index('TEXT_INDEX','FULL'); END;
*
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-20000: Oracle Text error:
ORA-06512: at "CTXSYS.DRUE", line 160
ORA-06512: at "CTXSYS.CTX_DDL", line 941
ORA-06512: at line 1

SQL> -- Error 2
SQL> execute ctx_ddl.optimize_index('TEXT_INDEX','FULL');
BEGIN ctx_ddl.optimize_index('TEXT_INDEX','FULL'); END;
*
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-20000: Oracle Text error:
ORA-06512: at "CTXSYS.DRUE", line 160
ORA-06512: at "CTXSYS.CTX_DDL", line 941
ORA-06512: at line 1

SQL> -- This will eventually complete without errors
SQL> execute ctx_ddl.optimize_index('TEXT_INDEX','FULL');

PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.

Changes
