What Types of Partitioning Are Eligible for Partition Change Tracking (PCT) Fast Refresh? (Doc ID 1281826.1)

Last updated on FEBRUARY 01, 2022

Applies to:

Oracle Database - Enterprise Edition - Version to [Release 10.1 to 12.1]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

When there have been partition maintenance operations on the detail tables for a materialized view, Partition Change Tracking (PCT)  is the only method of fast refresh that can be used.  The partitioning of the materialized view itself has no bearing on this feature.

If PCT refresh is possible, it will occur automatically and no user intervention is required in order for it to occur.  However, only certain types of partitioned tables are eligible for PCT.   The Oracle Datawarehousing Guide documentation (though version 11.2) does not currently contain the information about this restriction.   This note documents which types of partitioned tables are eligible for PCT.

(Please refer to the Oracle Datawarehousing Guide for your RDBMS version to review other requirements to support PCT.)
