RDBPROD: Working around RMU/SHOW STATISTICS limitations when executed in batch mode (Doc ID 1283304.1)

Last updated on JULY 05, 2017

Applies to:

Oracle Rdb Server on OpenVMS - Version 7.2 and later
HP OpenVMS Alpha
HP OpenVMS Itanium

Goal

There are some restrictions on what can be done when executing RMU/SHOW STATISTICS in a batch job, such as writing out specific screens by passing parameters at execution time.  For example:

$ RMU/SHOW STATISTICS/NOINTERACTIVE
x
y
z
$

This is possible interactively but not in batch. RMU/SHOW STATISTICS requires a terminal device, since it uses OpenVMS Screen Management (SMG) routines.

Common practices such as redirecting input to a command file, for example:

$DEFINE SYS$INPUT SYS$COMMAND

are not an option.

Is it possible to glean specific screens or even access the data in a batch mode?
