Symptoms
The libociei.so is an Instant Client library installed within the ORACLE_HOME/instantclient directory.
Starting with 11.2.0.2 a symbolic link is created within the ORACLE_HOME/lib directory name libociei.so that points to this library in the ORACLE_HOME/instantclient directory.
When an OCI application is executed with ORACLE_HOME/lib set it will actually load both the libclntsh.so and libociei.so files. With the libociei.so file being large (113097K ) and not really doing anything, applications are unnecessarily consuming too much memory.
This can be seen in most but not all Installations. It has been seen in most default installations like the Database or Client/Admin install.
