Symptoms
An update on an Oracle table causes a trigger to fire which updates a SQL*Server 2008 table using Database Gateway for SQL*Server (DG4MSQL) but this gives the error -
ORA-02054: transaction 9.9.9999 in-doubt
ORA-28500: connection from ORACLE to a non-Oracle system returned this message:
[Oracle][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Connection is busy with results for another
hstmt {HY000}
ORA-02063: preceding 2 lines from GATEWAY

The same trigger works successfully with 10g Transparent Gateway and SQL Server 2000.
