Not able to connect to sqlplus/start DB Illegal Instruction(coredump), Code: Active: Ora-07445 1 (Illegal Opcode), with ld: elf error (Doc ID 1313489.1)

Symptoms

When you try to connect to the database via the sqlplus / as sysdba command it generates the following errors:

$ sqlplus / as sysdba
Illegal Instruction(coredump)

In the alert log, you will see errors like:

Errors in file /ora/admin/SSTAT/udump/sstat2_ora_27689.trc:
ORA-07445: exception encountered: core dump [0000000101D9DCA0] [SIGILL] [Illegal opcode] [0x101D9DCA0] [] []

Further, when you perform a relink on the binaries, you get errors similar to:

$ relink all

ld: elf error: file /ora/product/v920/lib//libserver9.a(kkzr.o): elf_strptr: Request error: no string table
ld: elf error: file /ora/product/v920/lib//libserver9.a: elf_begin: Format error: archive fmag
ld: fatal: File processing errors. No output written to /ora/product/v920/rdbms/lib/oracle
