Goal

You observe two alert logs for an Oracle database. There is a 'standard' alert log in the ORACLE_BASE/admin/<sid> directory, but also another in ORACLE_HOME/dbs.
The second alert log has only limited but repeating messages like

Sun Feb 20 11:32:59 PST 2011
Instance shutdown complete
Sun Feb 20 11:33:46 PST 2011
Adjusting the default value of parameter parallel_max_servers

Is it possible to get rid of this second alert log and prevent it from reappearing?
