Update Exadata ILOM firmware manually from Storage Cell software patchset (Doc ID 1327022.1)

Last updated on FEBRUARY 27, 2019

Applies to:

Oracle Exadata Storage Server Software - Version and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Although the ILOM firmware is typically updated automatically during the process of updating the Storage Cell server software on either the Storage Cells or the Compute Nodes, it is possible to install it independently. A manual method is available, and a command line option is also available.  Both do reboot the ILOM service processor, and the command line option also reboots the system hardware.

This may be necessary if (for example) the IPMI service was accidentally not running on one of the Exadata Compute Nodes (db01) during the process of updating the Storage Cell server software. In this situation, the IPMI firmware would not be updated:

[root@db01 ~]# dcli -l root -g all_group ipmitool sunoem version
db01: Version: r58740
db02: Version: r62978
cell01: Version: r62978
cell02: Version: r62978
cell03: Version: r62978
cell04: Version: r62978
