Symptoms

The following error, or a similar variation, is displayed:

Oracle client and networking components were not found. These components are supplied by Oracle Corporation and are part of the Oracle Version 7.3.3 or later client software installation.


A number of different scenarios can throw this error but this frequently occurs when using various Microsoft front-end products (Access, Excel etc) to connect to Oracle through the Microsoft ODBC or OLE DB drivers for Oracle.
