Replica Cache Size Requirements with DB_CONF_REP_INMEM (Doc ID 1329787.1)

Last updated on AUGUST 23, 2021

Applies to:

Berkeley DB - Version 5.1.25 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Using DB_REP_CONF_INMEM (DB_ENV->rep_set_config()) results
in replicas failing with the error: "message thread failed: Not enough space".

This may be accompanied by a core dump and verbose replication messaging
which may contain messages like:

unable to allocate space from the buffer cache
DB_ENV->rep_process_message: Not enough space
message thread failed: Not enough space
PANIC: Not enough space
DB Panic: Not enough space

Increasing the cache size on the replica to two or three times what is on the primary does not seem to resolve the issue and results in a replica cache much larger than the primary cache.
