Last updated on MAY 13, 2013

Applies to:

Symptoms

After upgrading the Database from 9i to 10g (e.g. 9.2 to 10.2), Not able to take Hot backups because OS level "cp" command fails.

For example:

SQL> ALTER TABLESPACE USERS BEGIN BACKUP;

Tablespace altered.

SQL> !cp -rp /u01/oradata/PROD/users_01.dbf /u01/backup/PROD/users_01.dbf
cp: /u01/oradata/PROD/users_01.dbf: Invalid argument

Even "compress" command also fails with same error.

However, if the database is shutdown, a cold backup is successful using "cp" commmand without any errors.

Changes

Database has been upgraded from 9i to 10g.
