The MySQL Status Check Failed When Updating the Configuration File + my.cnf

(Doc ID 1347394.1)

Last updated on AUGUST 05, 2016

Applies to:

MySQL Server - Version: 4.0 and later   [Release: 4.0 and later ]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

When attempting to update the MySQL configuration file, the status check run by the mysql.server script failed. If the status check is done by a high availability monitor (such as Oracle Clusterware), this can result in a failover.

An example of the error returned by the MySQL service script is:

shell# service mysql status
ERROR! MySQL is running but PID file could not be found

This error happens if the MySQL configuration file is empty.
