German Results for Keywords Containing Umlauts (Ä, Ö, Ü) are not Found with English Browsers (Doc ID 1352612.1)

Symptoms


It is not possible to find German pages or documents for keywords including umlauts like ä, ö, and ü if the user uses a browser where the language is set to English.

Using other umlauts like the German “ß” or the Scandinavian “ø” or “å”, the issue is not reproduced.

e.g. Running a SES search for "Müller" (German name)

English browser:
Get hits of all web sites in all languages (Danish, Dutch, English, Finish, Polish, Swedish) except German

German browser:
Get hits of all web sites in all languages (Danish, Dutch, English, Finish, Polish, Swedish, German)
