Migration suggestion if multiple Exadata Compute Node Oracle Homes are using mixed lower versions than the shared Grid Oracle Home
(Doc ID 1353312.1)
Last updated on APRIL 12, 2022
Applies to:
Oracle Exadata Hardware - Version 11.2.0.2 and laterInformation in this document applies to any platform.
Symptoms
Exadata
You intend on using a single Exadata box with database for TEST / UAT and a PROD database
This means that compute nodes may have more than one RDBMS version: Older for PROD and the newer targeted version for UAT/TEST
This may be testing for different patchset levels
eg. 11.2.0.3.4 vs. 11.2.0.3.8
or
release levels
e.g. 11.2.0.2 vs. 11.2.0.3)
Your concern is : How do I test patching the GI / Infra at different levels if we are using a single-shared storage which means a single ASM and GI version
Changes
In this case the user accidentally created multiple RDBMS patched versions at different patchset levels for multiple RDBMS homes while only using a single Grid Infrastructure for the storage cell nodes.
That is: now we have several database levels but only one ASM / GI level shared by all of the RDBMS versions
