root.sh Hangs or Reboots Node on Non First Node if ASM Discovery String asm_diskstring is Set to /dev/ or /dev/* (Doc ID 1356567.1)

Symptoms

11gR2 Grid Infrastructure installation, root.sh succeeds on first node, but hangs or reboots node on second or other node:

  • root.sh screen output
..
Creating trace directory
==> then either node gets rebooted or script hangs here

  • $GRID_HOME/cfgtoollogs/crsconfig/rootcrs_<node>.log
2011-08-25 22:25:59: Executing cmd: /oracle/base/grid/11.2.0.2/bin/ocrconfig -local -upgrade oracle dba
2011-08-25 22:25:59: OLR successfully created or upgraded
2011-08-25 22:25:59: /oracle/base/grid/11.2.0.2/bin/clscfg -localadd
2011-08-25 22:25:59: Executing /oracle/base/grid/11.2.0.2/bin/clscfg -localadd
2011-08-25 22:25:59: Executing cmd: /oracle/base/grid/11.2.0.2/bin/clscfg -localadd
==> then either node gets rebooted or script hangs here

  • The issue can also happen when changing asm_diskstring  to '/dev/' or '/dev/*' once ASM is up and running.
