Why do I get User Authentication Failed when connecting as Instance Administrator? (Doc ID 1360220.1)

Last updated on JANUARY 09, 2020

Applies to:

Oracle TimesTen In-Memory Database - Version 11.2.1 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

I am seeing this error when connecting as the Instance Administrator:

ttIsql -connStr "dsn=<mydsndb>;UID=<myuid>";

Copyright (c) 1996-2011, Oracle. All rights reserved.
Type ? or "help" for help, type "exit" to quit ttIsql.

connect "dsn=<mydsndb>;UID=<myuid>";
7001: User authentication failed
The command failed.

This error seems to be inexplicable as user "<myuid>" can be confirmed as the Instance Administrator:

$ ttversion
TimesTen Release (32 bit Linux/x86) (<mydsndb>:53384) 2011-08-15T07:26:24Z
Instance admin: <myuid>
Instance home directory: /home/<myuid>/TimesTen/<mydsndb>
Group owner: <myuid>
Daemon home directory: /home/<myuid>/TimesTen/<mydsndb>/info
PL/SQL enabled.

The OS command ID also shows the user/group is okay:

$ id
uid=500(<myuid>) gid=501(<myuid>)
