Sometimes you need to have a separate database for each task on a single physical box. This number can get to be really large, for example, 100 databases.

You can set design the database services in different ways:
  • Run all databases on a single instance of MySQL Server.
  • Separate instances of MySQL Server with a few databases per instance on a single server.
  • Separate virtual machines with separate instances of MySQL Server.
This document will describe advantages and disadvantages of these solutions.
