Symptoms

When attempting to open a database following an abnormal termination, errors of the following form are observed in the alert log, and the database cannot be opened:


 
ALTER DATABASE OPEN
  Beginning crash recovery of 1 threads
  Aborting crash recovery due to error 4030
  Errors in file //'ORACLE.SROA.MPM.TRACE.G0020000.T174702':
  ORA-04030: out of process memory when trying to allocate 8388656 bytes (pga heap,redo overflow buff
er)
