Symptoms

RMAN restore of a controlfile from a Windows shared drive fails with the RMAN-06172 error when the "FROM" keyword is used and the path specified used the shared drive letter.


RMAN> restore controlfile from '<PATH>\<BP_NAME>.RMANBKP';
.....
RMAN-06172: no AUTOBACKUP found or specified handle is not a valid copy or piece
RMAN-6172: no AUTOBACKUP found or specified handle is not a valid copy or piece
