Symptoms

Running Oracle Rdb 7.2.4.2 update 1 to 7.2.5 on OpenVMS. Performing RMU/BACKUP/ONLINE. You get a bugcheck (RMUBUGCHK.DMP).

On Oracle Rdb 7.2.4.2 update 1 and running OpenVMS Itanium V8.3-1H1, the bugcheck "Stack Dump Summary" looks like:

Changes

The triggers are:

  1. There are large DELETE and INSERT operations occurring in the database while the RMU/BACKUP/ONLINE is running. The DELETEs erase most of the lines on pages and the INSERTs refill the pages.
    AND
  2. Your database transaction sequence numbers (TSNs) have grown to exceed 32 bits.
