The MySQL Service Immediately Dies on Starting (Doc ID 1384281.1)

Information in this document applies to any platform.


On : 5.0.61sp1 version when attempting to start the MySQL service,
the following error occurs.

[root@machine data]# /etc/init.d/mysql start
Starting MySQL/etc/init.d/mysql: line 159: kill: (15977) - No such process

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:
1. Install the 5.0 version of MySQL Server
2. Make sure SELinux is active on the Server
3. Attempt to start the service using either /etc/init.d/mysql start or service mysql start

The issue has the following business impact:
Due to this issue, users cannot access the service because it does not start.
