Symptoms
While attempting to set REMOTE_LISTENER or LOCAL_LISTENER using the alter system command, the following error is thrown:
ORA-00972: identifier is too long
Examples:
Each of these attempts would fail with the following message:
ORA-00972: identifier is too long or ORA-32021: parameter value longer than 255 characters
Changes
This is likely a new installation or a change to LOCAL_LISTENER or REMOTE_LISTENER is required in a RAC / SCAN environment.
