Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

In 11.2.0.2 and 11.2.0.3, a query on an XMLTYPE table with binary XML storage fails with an ORA-600 [qmcxdEvtNextcont]:

SQL> SELECT
  2       CREATED_BY                                                    ,
  3       TO_DATE(CREATED_DATE,'MM/DD/YYYY HH:MI AM') AS CREATED_DATE   ,
  4       MODIFIED_BY                                                   ,
  5       TO_DATE(MODIFIED_DATE,'MM/DD/YYYY HH:MI AM') AS MODIFIED_DATE ,
  6       COLLECTION_ID                                                 ,
  7       CUSTOMER_NOTES
  8  FROM RAW_CASE,
  9       XMLTABLE('//Record'
 10       PASSING (OBJECT_VALUE)
 11       COLUMNS
 12          CREATED_BY       VARCHAR2(30)   path 'created_by'
 13        , CREATED_DATE     VARCHAR2(50)   path 'created_date'
 14        , MODIFIED_BY      VARCHAR2(30)   path 'modified_by'
 15        , MODIFIED_DATE    VARCHAR2(50)   path 'modified_date'
 16        , COLLECTION_ID    NUMBER         path 'collection_id'
 17        , CUSTOMER_NOTES   CLOB           path 'customer_notes'
 18 )
 19 WHERE collection_id = 158;
ERROR:
ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [qmcxdEvtNextcont], [], [], [], [], [], [], [], [], []

If the CLOB column CUSTOMER_NOTES which can contain > 8000 characters is excluded from the query, the error does not occur.

If the hint /*+ NO_XML_QUERY_REWRITE */ is used, the error does not occur, but the query runs for 45 minutes instead of the expected 5 minutes run time.

Changes

Database was upgraded from 11.2.0.1 to 11.2.0.2 or 11.2.0.3.
