Last updated on MARCH 25, 2015

Applies to:

Oracle Database - Enterprise Edition - Version 11.2.0.1 and later
Generic Linux

Symptoms

While installing the Oracle 11.2 binaries, you may receive the following warning related to free space in /tmp filesystem

PRVF-7501 : Sufficient space is not available at location "/tmp" on node "node1" [Required space = 1GB ]
INFO: Cause: Not enough free space at location specified.
INFO: Action: Free up additional space or select another location.
INFO: *********************************************

Oracle installation document states that if there is less than 1 GB free space in /tmp filesystem, then identify a filesystem with at least 1 GB of free space and set the TMP and TMPDIR environment variables to specify a temporary directory on this filesystem.

Reference :
Section 2.18 Configuring the oracle User's Environment

Part Number E24321-04

However, if /tmp has less than 1 GB of free space, even though TMP and TMPDIR variables are set to use a filesystem with enough free space, the installer warns of insufficient free space in /tmp.
