Symptoms
You have configured a SQL Server Linked Server with SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) for any of the interfaces below:
- Oracle Provider for OLE DB
- Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle
and receive one of the following errors:
Oracle Provider for OLE DB Error Message
Cannot create an instance of OLE DB provider "OraOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server "ORAOLEDB.

(Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 7302)
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle Error Message
Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "MSDAORA" for linked server "MSOLEDB". OLE DB provider "MSDAORA" for linked server "MSOLEDB" returned message "Oracle client and networking components were not found. These components are supplied by Oracle Corporation and are part of the Oracle Version 7.3.3 or later client software installation.
Provider is unable to function until these components are installed.".
