Speed of DROP TABLE with InnoDB and innodb_file_per_table in MySQL Server, Particularly With Compression and Partitions (Doc ID 1434265.1)

Last updated on DECEMBER 23, 2015

Applies to:

MySQL Server - Version 5.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

When using innodb_file_per_table, DROP TABLE for InnoDB had several inefficiencies that could lead to it being slower than desirable. This could be particularly significant if partitioning is used because each partition is handled as a distinct table, leading to many iterations of the same work for different partitions. Only those using innodb_file_per_table are affected.
