Goal

The Universal Naming Convention provides a means to access files on a network without mapping the network drive to a drive letter. UNC names are constructed in the following manner:

\\computer name\share name\filename

When using UNC to designate an Oracle wallet in sqlnet.ora, located on a remote disk or local one, the functionality that employes the wallet is failing with errors that the wallet file cannot be opened.

Eg:

WALLET_LOCATION = (SOURCE = (METHOD = FILE) (METHOD_DATA = (DIRECTORY = \\my-computer\work)))

The SSL authentication that uses the wallet fails with: ORA-28759

[14-MAR-2012 19:43:31:020] Opening file \my-computer\work\ewallet.p12 with READ ONLY permissions

[14-MAR-2012 19:43:31:020] File Open/Close error
[14-MAR-2012 19:43:31:021] rio open failed with error 28759
