Oracle Text Searches Causing Sever Locking/Contention. (Doc ID 1446170.1)

Last updated on APRIL 01, 2012

Applies to:

Oracle Text - Version: 10.2.0.5 to 11.2.0.2 - Release: 10.2 to 11.2
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Frequency of the problem does vary between once per week and 10+ times per week.
The problem is that searches run on Oracle Text data generate locks where subsequent searches lock against a previous session.
Left alone, these locks do not clear by themselves.
The query that is always involved in the locks is:

SELECT r1,r2,r3,r4,s1,s2,s3,s4,s5,s6,s7,s8,score(1)
FROM ardome_st1l2
WHERE contains(oradata,:p1,1)>0
AND rownum < 10000

<Patch 9499302> did not resolve the issue, but did appear to reduce the number/frequency of occurrences by about a third overall, so did have a positive effect.
