Ora-28782 Using Utl_http.Request (Doc ID 1447858.1)

Last updated on FEBRUARY 04, 2017

Applies to:

Oracle Database - Enterprise Edition - Version 11.2.0.0. and later
Microsoft Windows (32-bit) - OS Version: 7
select utl_http.requests ... with an invalid certificate returns ORA-28782: data source is not allocated on Windows 7 32-bit OS.

This error should be ORA-29024: Certificate validation failure pointing to the root issue of an invalid or missing certificate in the wallet

Symptoms

Using sys.utl_http when calling an https url without a properly configured wallet certificate would normal produce the following output error:

ERROR at line 1:
ORA-29273: HTTP request failed
ORA-06512: at "SYS.UTL_HTTP", line 1577
ORA-29024: Certificate validation failure
ORA-06512: at line 1

On Windows 2008 R2 64-bit or Windows 7 desktop 32-bit platforms, 11.2 Database, it's been confirmed that the error may appear as:

ORA-29273: HTTP request failed
ORA-06512: at "SYS.UTL_HTTP", line 1722
ORA-28782: data source is not allocated
ORA-06512: at line 1

Changes

This behavior only appears to be happening on Windows based systems
