11.2.0.3 Grid Installer Hangs at 75% When Using DASD Storage Device That Is Soft Linked (Doc ID 1459030.1)

Last updated on APRIL 24, 2017

Applies to:

Oracle Server - Enterprise Edition - Version 11.2.0.3 to 11.2.0.3 [Release 11.2]
IBM: Linux on System z

Symptoms

Hanging at 75% during Grid Infrastructure installation and investigation shows that the hang is due to "/tmp/CVU_11.2.0.3.0_grid/exectask -getsttype /dev/ASM0401" looping on the second node.

-When specifying "/dev/ASM0401" for Oracle Restart/single instance on 11.2.0.3 installation there are no problems
-When specifying an ASMLib device (ORCL:ASM0401) there are no problems with a two node Grid Infrastructure installation.
-When specifying "/dev/dasdj1" (the non soft link device) there are no problems with a two node Grid Infrastructure installation. This diskstring is not persistent accross reboots though.
- When speciifing a diskstring of "/dev/dasdj1", deconfiguring, and changing the config_params to "/dev/ASM0401" the Cluster install completes succesfully.

Changes

The hang at 75% occurs in 11.2.0.3 Grid Infrastructure installation but does not occur in 11.2.0.2 Grid Infrastructure installation.

DASD devices are configured via udev rules on each node as follows with a SYMLINK i.e.
================================================================
node1:/dev # vi /etc/udev/rules.d/99-udev-oracle.rules
# Oracle ASM dasd disk
KERNEL=="dasd*1",ID=="0.0.041d",OWNER="oracle",GROUP="oinstall",MODE="0660",SYMLINK+="ASM0400"
KERNEL=="dasd*1",ID=="0.0.041e",OWNER="oracle",GROUP="oinstall",MODE="0660",SYMLINK+="ASM0401"
