Problem With Function Returning SDO_GEOMETRY (Doc ID 1461366.1)

Goal

Why when creating a PL/SQL function returning an SDO_GEOMETRY type and using that funcion in a CREATE TABLE AS DDL, the PL/SQL function is being called eight (8) times as shown below

Testing on 11.2.0.3:

SQL> set serveroutput on
create or replace function jnk_fnc return sdo_geometry is
begin
 dbms_output.put_line('I been called');
 return null;
end;
/
create table my_t1 as select jnk_fnc geom from dual;SQL> 2 3 4 5 6
Function created.

SQL>
I been called
I been called
I been called
I been called
I been called
I been called
I been called
I been called

Table created.
