Change group/user id on /home/oracle may result in database crash with error 7274. (Doc ID 1476809.1)

Symptoms

When attempting to modify the privilege of directory /home/oracle ,
the following error occurs and the instance crashed


PSP0: terminating instance due to error 7274
Instance terminated by PSP0, pid = 13296

Changes

We did the test case to show how it happened on Linux (or Solaris)

[oracle@test home]$ cd $ORACLE_HOME/bin

[oracle@test bin]$ stat oracle
  File: `oracle'
  Size: 96789226        Blocks: 189248     IO Block: 4096   regular file
Device: 801h/2049d      Inode: 3154046     Links: 1
Access: (6751/-rwsr-s--x)  Uid: ( 1100/  oracle)   Gid: ( 1000/oinstall)
Access: 2012-07-20 22:00:47.000000000 +0800
Modify: 2012-07-20 20:08:16.000000000 +0800
Change: 2012-07-20 20:08:16.000000000 +0800
[oracle@test bin]$ date
Fri Jul 20 22:37:24 CST 2012
[oracle@test bin]$ chgrp dba /home/oracle
[oracle@test bin]$ stat $ORACLE_HOME/bin/oracle
  File: `oracle'
  Size: 96789226        Blocks: 189248     IO Block: 4096   regular file
Device: 801h/2049d      Inode: 3154046     Links: 1
Access: (0751/-rwxr-x--x)  Uid: ( 1100/  oracle)   Gid: ( 1100/dba)  <<==Access changed

Once access of directory /home/oracle changed ,the access of binary ($ORACLE_HOME/bin/oracle) changed as well.

For Aix you can use  'istat'  to check the accesses changes .

For HP-UX you can use 'fstat' to check the accesses changes
