11gR2 GI root.sh Fails With: The commandline is not formed properly. Please type "asmca -h" to get the command line syntax. (Doc ID 1481141.1)

Symptoms

Adding a new node to an 11gR2 Grid Infrastructure cluster, addNode.sh succeeded without any issues, however, root.sh fails:

 

CRS-2676: Start of 'ora.cssd' on '<hostname>' succeeded

The commandline is not formed properly. Please type "asmca -h" to get the command line syntax.

Configuration of ASM ... failed
see asmca logs at <ORACLE_BASE>/cfgtoollogs/asmca for details
Did not succssfully configure and start ASM at <GI_HOME>/install/crsconfig_lib.pm line 6778.
/ocw/grid/perl/bin/perl -I/ocw/grid/perl/lib -I<GI_HOME>/install <GI_HOME>/install/rootcrs.pl execution failed
The following is expected normally:

CRS-4402: The CSS daemon was started in exclusive mode but found an active CSS daemon on node wirac1f, number 1, and is terminating
An active cluster was found during exclusive startup, restarting to join the cluster
