Symptoms

Attempting to connect from sqlplus with Instant Client basic Lite when the process starts from a directory structure with multibyte characters fails with:

Error 57 initializing SQL*Plus
Error loading message shared library

Attempting to connect using a .NET application and ODP.NET fails with:

Exception occurred:
InnerException:

For Example:

C:\プロジェクト\instantclient_11_2>sqlplus

Error 57 initializing SQL*Plus
Error loading message shared library

Attempting to install a fulll client into a directory structure with non-ASCII characeters throws an informational error message.

INS-32010 String contains invalid characters
Cause - The specified string contained one or more invalid characters.
Action - Choose a string containing only alphanumeric characters and a few additional characters that are allowed for your platform
