Flume-ng Agents Fail with 'Failed to bind' and 'Invalid hostname: h1' Errors (Doc ID 1493466.1)

Symptoms

Oracle Big Data Appliance(BDA) has CDH3U4 and Flume-ng 1.2 installed. And another Flume-ng 1.2 agent  is running on an external GNU Linux system.

Running into errors when external Linux system sink is agent on BDA and then this BDA agent writes the data to HDFS sink.

Below is the error returned when starting agent on BDA

Here is the error generated with agent on external linux system while trying to write to sink

org.apache.flume.FlumeException: Invalid hostname: h1
