Logminer redo_value shows Error Translating or incorrect data on table with compression (Doc ID 1493776.1)

Last updated on SEPTEMBER 25, 2012

Applies to:

Oracle Server - Enterprise Edition - Version 10.1.0.2 to 11.2.0.3 [Release 10.1 to 11.2]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Select from redo_value will return incorrect redo data that does not match values actually used in original dml or will return "Error Translating".

Example:

SELECT operation, DBMS_LOGMNR.MINE_VALUE(REDO_VALUE,'FC.NCE.ID') FROM V$LOGMNR_CONTENTS

INSERT 10 <=== An incorrect value is shown for redo_value for that specific column. The actual insert used different values.

OR

column value will show something like  = Error Translating and no value is shown.

In order to be hitting this bug, the table must use table compression at the time of the dml operation when redo information was written to the redo logs.

To check for table compression look at COMPRESSION column in views *_TABLES, *_TAB_PARTITIONS, *_TAB_SUBPARTITIONS.
