Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

To maintain two disctinct retention policies for disk and tape backups.

They may be required where backups are made to disk and then copied to tape :  tape copies are kept for a very much longer time scale than the disk backups which are kept on disk for short term usage to avoid the need to restore from tape.
