MySQL Process is Restarted Without any Error Message In the Log (Doc ID 1497057.1)

Last updated on DECEMBER 29, 2016

Applies to:

MySQL Server - Version 4.0 and later
Generic Linux
If Linux sysctl variable vm.would_have_oomkilled is configured to 1, Linux may send signal 9 to processes which use a lot of memory.
It is not possible to catch or ignore signal 9, so mysqld process will silently restart.

MySQL process silently restarts with messages like following (no other diagnostic info is printed before restart):

121009 11:16:42 mysqld_safe Number of processes running now: 0
121009 11:16:43 mysqld_safe mysqld restarted
