Symptoms

Using Sqoop to access a MySQL database server as for example like below:

sqoop list-databases --username [Username] --password [Password] --connect jdbc:mysql://[MySQL database server name or ip&]

for example:

sqoop list-databases --username oracle --password oracle --connect jdbc:mysql://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

raises:

 

12/12/03 11:51:40 ERROR manager.CatalogQueryManager: Failed to list databases
com.mysql.jdbc.exceptions.jdbc4.CommunicationsException: Communications link failure

The last packet sent successfully to the server was 0 milliseconds ago. The driver has not received any packets from the server.
