11.2.0.3 SRVCTL SEEMS TO "IGNORE" _ (UNDERSCORE) WHEN USED FOR DB_UNIQUE NAME in ORACLE RESTART (Doc ID 1523395.1)

Last updated on MARCH 20, 2015

Applies to:

Oracle Database - Enterprise Edition - Version 11.2.0.3 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

When adding  a database with srvctl add database "Database instance:"  would default to
first 12 characters of <db_unique_name>)
This is also true in 11.2.0.3 RAC but is somehow working differently in 11.2.0.3 (Restart)

BEFORE 11.2.0.3, $ srvctl add database -d SSS_589 resulted in
: Database unique name: SSS_589 .. Database instance: SSS_589 <------ "_" is included in the instance name and is OK

NOW IN 11.2.0.3(restart) srvctl add database -d SSS_589 results in:
Database unique name: SSS_589 .. Database instance: SSS589 ----> "_" is ignored and is not OK.

srvctl -V
 srvctl version: 11.2.0.3.0
 .
 srvctl config database -d SSS_589 -a
 Database unique name: SSS_589

 Database role: PRIMARY
 Management policy: AUTOMATIC
Database instance: SSS589   <-- "_" gets omitted when registering inst name
