root.sh fails during GI installation on the first node with ORA-15303 in ASM alert.log

***Checked for relevance on 10-OCt-2014***
1. New installation for GI ( Grid Infrastructure ) with ASMLib devices ( with ORCL:* device path ) on Linux.
2. root.sh fails on the first node with the following messages
Disk Group CRSVOTE created successfully.
clscfg: -install mode specified
Successfully accumulated necessary OCR keys.
Creating OCR keys for user 'root', privgrp 'root'..
Failed to create voting files on disk group CRSVOTE.
Change to configuration failed, but was successfully rolled back.
CRS-4000: Command Replace failed, or completed with errors.
Voting file add failed
Failed to add voting disks at /u01/grid/22.214.171.124/crs/install/crsconfig_lib.pm line 6780.
/u01/grid/126.96.36.199/perl/bin/perl -I/u01/grid/188.8.131.52/perl/lib -I/u01/grid/184.108.40.206/crs/install /u01/grid/220.127.116.11/crs/install/rootcrs.pl execution failed
2013-01-04 13:44:57: Command output:

4. ASM alert.log
ERROR: Voting file allocation failed for group CRSVOTE
Errors in file /u01/oracle/diag/asm/+asm/+ASM1/trace/+ASM1_ora_7321.trc:
ORA-15303: Voting files could not be created in diskgroup CRSVOTE due to small Allocation Unit size
5. The device used for OCRVOTE diskgroup shows different logical ( 512 bytes ) and physical block size ( 4096 bytes )
$ ls -l /dev/oracleasm/disks/*
brw-rw---- 1 oragrid asmadmin 253, 17 Jan 8 13:46 CRSVOTE1
# cd /sys/block/dm-17/queue
# more *block_size
