Solaris Exadata: Upgrading from (S11 Express) to (S11) using online repositories (Doc ID 1532356.1)

Last updated on JANUARY 31, 2020

Applies to:

Oracle Exadata Hardware - Version and later
Oracle Solaris on x86-64 (64-bit)

Explain to the reader the purpose of the reference document.

This document describes the steps involved in upgrading the database nodes in a Solaris Exadata from Solaris11 Express,SRU8.5  to Solaris11,SRU8.5 using online repositories.

The use of online repositories facilitates a quick and simple upgrade. Only the bits necessary are downloaded and applied to the image to be updated.

This example includes an IDR to show the steps involved in upgrading with an IDR in place. IDR's for Solaris11 Express did not have 'supercede' functionality and so the steps involved are more involved than with later releases of Solaris

This document applies to customers and support engineers that intend to upgrade the database nodes as part of an overall upgrade of the Exadata platform.
