Large insert onto a spatially indexed table causing poor performance and too much redo generation (Doc ID 1532775.1)

When inserting a large number of rows into a table which results to updates on the table's spatial index, the redo generation goes through the roof and the performance goes down. As a workaround, i.e. in order to continue loading, the spatial index has to be dropped.
