ORA-14402 When Deleting Rows from Partitioned Table (Doc ID 1536103.1)

Last updated on AUGUST 04, 2018

Applies to:

Oracle Database - Enterprise Edition - Version 11.2.0.1 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

1. When deleting from partitioned Table A, you are receiving an ORA-14402 "Updating partition key column would cause a partition change," which seems to make no sense for a DELETE statement.

2. When you run a 10046 trace, you find that the failing SQL is an UPDATE statement on partitioned Table B.

3. Table B is partitioned on one of the columns that is being updated.
