Flashback Database Using Guaranteed Restore Point Failing with Error: ORA-38754 (Doc ID 1547421.1)

Goal

When attempting a  Flashback Database to a guaranteed restore point the following
message is generated.

ORA-38754: FLASHBACK DATABASE not started; required redo log is not available.

 

- ORA-38754 is reported because the archivelog needed to flashback the Database to the guarantee restore point was deleted  from  the flashback recovery area.

7 Using Flashback Database and Restore Points

No file in the fast recovery area is eligible for deletion if it is required
to satisfy a guaranteed restore point. Thus, retention of flashback logs and
other files required to satisfy the guaranteed restore point, in addition to
files required to satisfy the backup retention policy, can cause the fast
recovery area to fill completely
