Symptoms

 A RMAN Duplicate Target Database for Standby fails with the following errors despite all files from previous standby having been deleted:

RMAN-03002: failure of Duplicate Db command at 04/25/2013 14:57:56
RMAN-05501: aborting duplication of target database
RMAN-03015: error occurred in stored script Memory Script
RMAN-03009: failure of switch command on clone_default channel at 04/25/2013 14:57:56
ORA-01121: cannot rename database file 1 - file is in use or recovery
ORA-01110: data file 1: '/<path>/data/<DBNAME>/system.dbf001'
